Residents of Ukraine’s Kherson region are evacuating day after day. The thing is that a major dam and hydroelectric power plant were deliberately blown up by russian forces on the Dnipro River. Approximately 80 settlements, including pets and animals, are threatened by the rising water levels.
The U-hearts Foundation definitely keeps on working with our partners on the ground to support the evacuation effort: GoodPacks from Greater Good Charities, transportation cages for animals and pet food are on the way to the affected areas. We have already sent 4 tons of fodder, 41 cages, various leashes, treats, 7 carriers and 125 GoodPacks from Greater Good Charities to the Kherson region.
Now the U-hearts Foundation team will share some comments about the current situation in Kherson provided by our coordinators. Olena told us that in total, nowadays there are approximately 400-450 rescued animals on the checkpoint. Thus, there is a significant need for nets for catching cats and small dogs.

Coordinator in Dnipro, whose name is Natalya informed us about a lack of absolutely all things and several resources – food, water, clothes, etc. Both people and animals lost their homes and were literally left with nothing.
In addition, Natalya said that yesterday volunteers rescued a 90-year-old grandmother from a tree, wearing just her dressing gown. The whole situation is rather complicated and definitely dreadful, thus any kind of help is needed, including information as volunteers need to place animals somewhere. Shelters in Ukraine are already overcrowded.
Anastasiya who is considered to be the head of the charity “Charity Fund Ukraine. United in diversity” stated that during the day volunteers who keep on helping pets managed to save more then 100 animals and took them out of Kherson. Due to several reposts and donations, a team could pay for buses, buy cages. In addition, today they bought motors for boats.
So luckily people from other regions do their best to help Ukrainian pets. And that’s the mission we should all pay attention to.
